What determines the cost of carpeting your home?

When someone contacts Harrisons Flooring, they typically know which space they want carpeted and their budget, but are uncertain about carpet prices and how far their money will stretch.

That's why we come to you. By visiting your home we provide a direct quote and ensure you get the right product.

Harrisons Flooring franchisee, Mohammed Yusuf, explains the key information needed before showing you our range of more than 600 samples.

Why Do You Want a New Carpet?

"There's a basic division between people buying carpet because they're selling their home and those who are renovating," Mohammed explains.

For sellers: We recommend shorter pile carpet for a neat appearance and vital first impression. Real estate agents know that new carpets make homes easier to sell—buyers see old carpets as costly work ahead, while new carpets mean one less task after moving in.

For renovators: We assess your specific needs:

  • Hard-wearing requirements (children, high traffic)
  • Sun exposure (particularly important in Australian homes)
  • Desired softness underfoot

For durability, we recommend heavier-weight solution-dyed nylon products.

Where Do You Want the New Carpet?

Once you've chosen your style, we measure every room to calculate exactly how much you need and provide a proposal on the spot.

We use laser measurement and the SiteDraw app to create a floor plan on our tablet. Carpet is measured in lineal metres (usually 3.66m wide), with 3.6 square metres per lineal metre. This allows us to calculate wastage and determine precise amounts needed.

What's Your Budget? Understanding Carpet Pricing

At Harrisons, we have options for every budget. Here's a guide to carpet pricing:

Entry-level carpet prices:For a standard three-bedroom, single-level home with a hall, lounge, and dining area (approximately 23 lineal metres), you can expect to pay around $4,000 for carpet with underlay and installation included.

Premium carpet pricing:For top-end products in the same sized home (23 lineal metres), the cost would be approximately $6,000.

Additional rooms:Adding an extra bedroom (approximately four lineal metres) would increase costs by around $800 for basic carpet or $1,000 for higher-end options.

Larger homes:For 40 lineal metres of top-end carpet, the total cost would be approximately $12,000.

"We really can suit any budget!" Mohammed emphasises.

Additional Costs to Consider

Beyond the carpet itself, Mohammed points out several extra charges that may apply to your final quote:

  • Furniture moving: Relocating existing furniture before carpet installation
  • Old carpet removal: Disposal of your existing flooring
  • Staircases: Priced per stair for wraparound carpet, with costs varying depending on the number of landings and stairs
  • Naplock bars: Additional cost for transition strips between carpet and vinyl flooring
